Fallacy of relative privation, also known as "appeal to worse problems" or "not as bad as" fallacy, refers to an argument that dismisses certain problems or injustices by comparing them to worse problems or injustices. In other words, it is a fallacious argument that minimizes the significance of a problem by suggesting that there are other problems that are more severe or deserving of attention.
For example, if someone complains about their long work hours, and another person responds by saying "At least you have a job, think about the millions of people who are unemployed", they are committing the fallacy of relative privation. While it is true that unemployment is a serious issue, it does not invalidate the initial complaint about long work hours.
The fallacy of relative privation is often used as a justification for inaction or ignoring a problem in order to avoid dealing with it. It is important to address and solve problems even if there are other problems that may seem worse.
